What to see on November 10th at LEFFEST

On the third day of LEFFEST, we open the doors once again to cinema, music, and visual arts, with a program that promises to surprise and challenge the audience.

The day starts at Medeia Nimas Cinema at 11 am with There Is No Evil, by Mohammad Rasoulof, in a special screening that will include a presentation by the director, who fled Iran clandestinely after being sentenced to eight years in prison, flogging, and the confiscation of all his material possessions following the making of this last film. At 2 pm, Patricia Mazuy presents Sport de filles, as part of a Retrospective in her name. At 4 pm, integrated in the Palestine cycle, we highlight the screening of Mémoires de Palestine, followed by a debate with Leila Shahid, Simone Bitton, Elias Sanbar, and Avi Mograbi. At 7 pm, we continue with the second film from the cycle Michael Haneke — Unprecedented films in the theatre, 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance. The day at Medeia Nimas Cinema ends at 9:30 pm with one of Manoel de Oliveira’s masterpieces — No, or the Vain Glory of Command.

The Tivoli BBVA Theatre hosts the first cine-concert of this edition — Der Rosenkavalier / The Knight of the Rose, at 5 pm, a film by Robert Wiene, accompanied by the original score of one of Richard Strauss’s most famous operas, performed live by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Pedro Amaral.

At Cinema São Jorge, all three of its rooms open their doors for another day of unmissable screenings. In the Manoel de Oliveira Room, Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard, is scheduled for 2 pm. In the same room, at 6 pm, we present Le Roman de Jim, with a conversation featuring director Arnaud Larrieu and actor Karim Leklou. Then at 9:30 pm, On Falling, by Laura Carreira, will be shown. The filmmaker, who won the Best First Film award at the BFI London Film Festival, will be present for a talk.

In Room 2, we continue two cycles: at 3 pm, The Love Witch by Anna Biller, part of the Erotic Cinema cycle, and at 7 pm, Alsino y el Cóndor, by Miguel Littin, as part of the Images of War cycle.

Room 3 will host four screenings. At 2 pm, we present The Face You Deserve by Miguel Gomes, as part of the Retrospective dedicated to the filmmaker. Right after, at 4 pm, Jonás Trueba will present his debut feature Every Song is About Me. At 7 pm, we return to Miguel Gomes with Tabu, one of his most acclaimed works. Finally, at 9 pm, we screen Souleymane's Story by Boris Lojkine, part of the Discoveries section.

At the Gymnasium of Liceu Camões, and continuing the War Images cycle, we inaugurate the War and Peace exhibition at 12 pm, a project that has been in development for several years by renowned photojournalists Marie-Laure de Decker and Noël Quidu, now brought to life in a rare opportunity to view their work; entry is free.

Still within the same cycle, but at the Liceu Camões Auditorium, one of the great classics of cinema, Battleship Potemkin, by Sergei Eisenstein, will be screened at 3 pm, followed by Shame by Ingmar Bergman at 6 pm.

At MUDE — Museum of Design, the program A Journey Through Some of the Great Artists of the 20th Century continues. At 11 am and 3 pm, we present the interview Carlos Cobra by Paulo Branco. At 5 pm, Rua José Escada by Isabel Lopes Gomes + António Dacosta. Pintor Europeu das Ilhas by Tereza Martha will be shown.

The day ends at Teatro do Bairro at 7 pm with the opening of In-Between, an exhibition by visual artist Khaled Jarada, followed at 8 pm by the Night of Poetry, featuring the screening of the documentary Mahmoud Darwish: As the land is the Language by Simone Bitton and Elias Sanbar, accompanied by a poetry reading moderated by Shahd Wadi, a Palestinian researcher, with live music.
