Jacques Audiard

Jacques Audiard was born in Paris in 1952. The son of French comedy legend Michel Audiard, Jacques grew up surrounded by cinema greats such as Jean Gabin, Lino Ventura, and Bernard Blier. He began his career as a screenwriter in the 1980s and made his directorial debut in 1994 with See How They Fall, selected for Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival and winner of the César Award for Best First Feature. He later directed A Self Made Hero, which won the Best Screenplay Award at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, Read My Lips, which won the César Award for Best Screenplay in 2001, and The Beat That My Heart Skipped, which won the César Awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Adaptation in 2005. In 2009, A Prophet earned him César Awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, followed by Rust and Bone in 2012. With more than a dozen films to his name, Audiard has become an indispensable figure in cinema, known for his eclectic and distinctive body of work.
