Arnaud Larrieu was born in 1965 in Lourdes, a city near the Pyrenees. His films are made in close collaboration with his brother, Jean-Marie. Their passion for cinema developed early in their childhood, thanks to their grandfather, an amateur photographer who encouraged them to film with Super 8. After failing to enrol at La Fémis, he decided to study philosophy. Upon completing his studies, he returned to cinema and directed several short films with his brother. Their first feature film, Summer’s End, premiered commercially in 1999. The following year, the medium-length film Roland’s Pass premiered at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes in Cannes. In 2003, their second feature film, A Man, a Real One, premiered in the Official Competition at the Torino Film Festival. Two years later, To Paint or Make Love participated in the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Over the years, their films have regularly featured at various film festivals. The brothers’ work is acclaimed for its humour and eccentricity, primarily set in the French southwest, where they grew up. Their penultimate film, Tralala, was filmed in their hometown of Lourdes and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, out of competition. Their most recent film, Jim’s Story, also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
