Miguel Gomes graduated in Cinema from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School and began his career as a film critic. After directing several short films, he made his feature film debut in 2004 with A Cara que Mereces. His subsequent films solidified his international success: Our Beloved Month of August (Cannes Directors' Fortnight 2008), Tabu (Berlinale Official Competition 2012: Alfred Bauer and FIPRESCI awards), Arabian Nights (Cannes Directors' Fortnight 2015), and The Tsugua Diaries (Cannes Directors' Fortnight 2021). His sixth feature, Grand Tour, premiered in the 2024 Cannes Film Festival Competition, where he won the prestigious Best Director Award.
