The Devil's Death

Crime without punishment. Euphoria without a hangover. Revelation without sacrifice. Cinema has always tended to establish a manichean worldview, to provide easy and comforting but false, manipulative resolutions. But it needn't be. A film can also demolish the whole paradigms – of good and evil, of God and Devil, of right and wrong. So it could turn cinematic reality on its head and help us see our own reality more clearly. This is what the films of this program strive to do. Their provocative inventions – be it manic preachers or bad lieutenants – embody the existence outside any norms or systems, revealing the true nature of these confines.
