Three years after premiering his film Pasolini in the 2014 edition of the festival, the director returns to LEFFEST, this time with a retrospective of his filmography.
A prominent figure of North American independent film, Abel Ferrara is famous for violent and controversial films that explore the darker side of New York. With The Driller Killer (1976), an urban slasher about a serial killer, he achieved a notable cult following. King of New York (1990) and Bad Lieutenant (1992) are among his most acclaimed works. In 2011 he debuted 4:44 – Last Day on Earth, an apocalyptic essay set in a New York apartment. Pasolini, his latest feature-film, narrates the last days of Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini, played by Willem Dafoe. Recently, Ferrara has directed two documentaries; the most recent one, Piazza Vittorio – about a multicultural neighbourhood in the city of Rome – premiered at the 2017 edition of the Venice Film Festival.
