Independent director Tony Childress casts himself as Jesus Christ in This is my Blood, the film within Abel Ferrara’s resonant and revelatory new film, Mary. With the gifted Marie Palesi as his Magdalene, all seems well until the shoot wraps and she refuses to accept that filming is over. Instead of returning with Tony to New York, she travels alone to Jerusalem to continue her spiritual journey inspired by her role. A year later in Manhattan we find the final member of our trinity, Ted Younger, a superstar network journalist, in the midst of a prime time week long, special, investigating the life and times of Jesus Christ. While his show is receiving high ratings, he and his wife are about to face a personal crisis which they are unprepared for spiritually. Moving from New York to Rome to Jerusalem, Ferrara brings the mystery and legend of Mary Magdalene out from the shadows of antiquity in a new post 9/11 style.
