Son of a director and a producer, Jonás Trueba was introduced to cinema from an early age, starting his filmmaking career with collaborations on several film scripts. In 2010, he directed his first feature film, Todas las canciones hablan de mí, which earned him a Goya nomination for Best New Director. In 2022, his film Tenéis que venir a verla premiered in the Official Selection at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and was nominated the following year for the Silvestre Award for Best Feature Film at the IndieLisboa International Film Festival. Trueba’s films offer vibrant, sensorial, fresh and spiritual snapshots of contemporary life in Spain, where cinema and life merge, exploring themes of love and desire, friendship, relationships and memory. His most recent work, Volveréis, premiered at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, marking his debut at the festival and winning the award for Best European Film. In Portugal, LEFFEST will present Volveréis as part of a comprehensive retrospective of the director’s body of work with his presence, alongside actress Itsaso Arana and producer Javier Lafuente.
