After fifteen years, Ale, director, and Alex, actor, realise that their relationship has come to an end. Seeing the decision is mutual and the friendship between the two remains and based on a saying told by Ale’s father (“We should celebrate when couples break up, not when they get together”), the two decide to organise a “break-up party” in honour of their love and time together, leaving their friends and family confused. Exploring the complexity of emotions and the possibility of rekindled feelings, weaving a melancholic undertone that resonates with the public, Trueba redefines the conventions of the comedies of remarriage in this coming-of-age film.
Discussion with director Jonás Trueba and actress Itsaso Arana.
