Jianjie Lin's life path had little connection to cinema. With a degree in bioinformatics and the option to continue his studies in the same field, the director chose to take a risk and enter the world of filmmaking. He graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and directed two short films: A Visit (2016) and Gu (2016). His debut feature film, Brief History of a Family (2024), was selected for competition at both the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival, garnering attention from numerous other international festivals.
