Wei is an outgoing boy with a passion for fencing. Coming from a middle-class family, he feels suffocated by his parents' expectations. One day, he meets Shuo, his complete opposite: introverted, extremely dedicated to his studies, and navigating a complicated family life. When Wei invites Shuo to his home, his presence becomes a recurring occurrence within the family dynamic. Wei's parents see in Shuo the prototype of the ideal son they have always desired. Jianjie Lin's debut feature film explores the unrest that erupts when a new member infiltrates a Chinese family following the end of the one-child policy.
