Ana Moreira is a Portuguese actress born in 1980 in Lisbon. She made her debut in 1997 in João Tuna’s short film Primavera, distinguished by the Mediterranean Festival of New Filmmakers in Greece. In the next year, the actress participated in Os Mutantes by Teresa Villaverde, a film that marked the beginning of a long collaboration with the Portuguese filmmaker and showcased her expressive face and astounding talent. She received awards for Best Actress at the International Festivals of Bastia and Taormina. In 1999, she was considered one of the best young actresses by the European Film Promotion organization. She also worked on the films Tarde Demais (2000) by José Nascimento, Rasganço (2002) by Raquel Freire and O Fascínio (2003) by José Fonseca e Costa, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Brazilian writer Tabajara Ruas. For TV, she participated in the RTP series Pedro e Inês, playing Inês de Castro.
In 2005 she starred in Margarida Gil’s film Adriana, where she acted opposite Isabel Ruth. The film, included in the IndieLisboa Festival’s Observatório section, won the Tóbis award for best Portuguese film. She resumes her collaboration with Teresa Villaverde in 2006 in Transe, screened at the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Festival.
In the next year she acts in Jorge Cramez’ film O Capacete Dourado, nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Festival. More recently, she starred in Miguel Gomes’ internationally acclaimed Tabu, distinguished at several Portuguese and international festivals and which has been included in North-American film site Fandor’s list of the 25 best films of the first half of the decade.
Ana Moreira will be present in LEFFEST, Thursday the 22nd, at 18:00, in Espaço Nimas, to present the film A Corte Do Norte.
