Opening Film
In 1947, László, a Jewish architect born in Hungary who survived the Holocaust, moves to Pennsylvania to rebuild his career, marriage, and life. After enduring poverty and indignity, he encounters the wealthy industrialist Van Buren, who hires him for a challenging project to build a community centre, offering László the potential for financial enrichment. The film provides a detailed recreation of post-war America, exploring both hope and darkness as it delves into the power of money and privilege, where historic trauma remains oppressively present.
