1944, Northern Italy; the Republic of Salò is under Nazi rule. Four libertines forcibly take a group of young men and women to an isolated palace, where they subject them to various forms of sexual torture. Drawing on the work of the Marquis de Sade to examine the violence of World War II and the power dynamics of the capitalist system, Pasolini created his final and most disturbing film here, before his murder in 1975.
