At the dawn of the 20th century in Burma, a British Empire official abandons his fiancée just as she arrives for their wedding. He then undertakes an extensive journey across the Asian continent, where his initial panic gradually turns into melancholy. Meanwhile, his fiancée, steadfast in her resolve to preserve their marriage, pursues him on this grand tour of Asia. The film's premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, along with its Best Director Award, propelled Grand Tour to numerous festivals and theatrical releases around the world.
