Our Terrible Country

Our Terrible Country follows the perilous journey of Syrian intellectual and dissident Yassin Haj Saleh and rebel photographer Ziad Homsi, through the liberated area of Douma, Syria, where they meet, all the way to Raqqa. Upon their arrival, the city is occupied by the Islamic State (ISIS). Yassin leaves for Istanbul, Turkey, but Ziad is kidnapped, reuniting with Yassin after his release, hoping one day to return home.
Screening followed by a conversation with director Mohammad Ali Atassi and Farouk Mardam-Bey, with a lute recital by Ahmad Alhossari
