Special Screenings: New Perspectives and Cinematic Rediscoveries

03.11.2026

Bringing together the discovery of new works and the rediscovery of films that have shaped different moments in cinema history, the Special Screenings section of the 20th edition of LEFFEST presents a programme spanning diverse geographies, generations and cinematic forms.

The section features Amaretti, directed by Stacy Martin, and Child of the Rouge, directed by Taz F. Stark. The screening will take place on 9 November at 7 pm at Cinema Medeia Nimas.

The programme also includes Isabel, the latest feature by Gabe Klinger, which screened in the Panorama section of the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival. Set in São Paulo’s restaurant scene, the film follows a sommelier striving for professional independence and seeking to open her own wine bar. The director will be present for a post-screening conversation on 12 November at 7 pm at Cinema São Jorge.

Completing the programme, Return to Aztlán, directed by Juan Mora Catlett (professor and mentor of Alfonso Cuarón), returns to the big screen more than three decades after its premiere. Filmed entirely in Nahuatl, the film takes us back to the final years of the Aztec Empire, before the arrival of the Europeans, following the parallel journeys of priests and a peasant towards Aztlán, the mythical place of origin of Mexican culture. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 1992 Trieste Latin American Film Festival, the film will be screened in the presence of the director on 12 November at 2 pm at Cinema Medeia Nimas.
