João Jaime Pires was born in 1955 in Alhandra. Although Pires studied Electronic Engineering, it was teaching that fascinated him. Pires took part in literacy campaigns from an early age. His will to intervene in a community with intense participatory life and very specific problems, led to his election as President of the Parish Council and motivated his concern with issues relating to education, culture and sports.
At Camões Secondary School, where Pires began working in 1993, he immediately focused on understanding and improving the working conditions for students, staff members, and teachers. This commitment led him to take on executive and pedagogical roles, enabling him to directly influence these improvements. Since 2009, Pires has led the school, working to foster an inclusive environment where everyone’s voice is heard. He promotes an educational project that is humanistic, comprehensive, and culturally enriched, providing diverse learning experiences with a broad range of activities. One of his most significant achievements has been the school’s rehabilitation project—a difficult and time-consuming endeavor which has proven to be successful.
