A leading figure in world jazz, in 2023 Rodrigo Amado was named best tenor saxophonist by the prestigious international critics’ poll El Intruso, composed of 50 critics and writers from 18 countries, repeating consecutive nominations over the years. He frequently tours Europe and North America with his own groups and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most important improvisers today. He has participated in several editions of LEFFEST with cine-concert performances; following his work on Charlie Chaplin’s The Immigrant (1917) and The Pilgrim (1923) at the previous edition, he returns this year — accompanied by David Maranha — to provide a live musical score for Luis Buñuel’s The Golden Age (1930).
