Martin Henneken began studying the cello at the age of six. He studied at the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany with Troels Svane before joining Reinhard Latzko's class at the University of Music in Vienna, Austria, where he completed his Master’s degree with honours. He has received several prizes at the German National Competition for Young Musicians and was awarded a scholarship from the Live Music Now Foundation, established by Yehudi Menuhin. During his studies, he regularly collaborated with various orchestras, including the Lübeck Philharmonic, the Volksoper Wien Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony, and the Symphony of India in Mumbai. Between 2009 and 2010, he was a member of the Vienna National Opera Orchestra (Vienna Philharmonic), with which he had the opportunity to participate in recordings, international tours, and festivals such as Salzburg, Lucerne, and the BBC Proms. Since 2010, he has been the 2nd cello soloist with the Gulbenkian Orchestra.
