Iva Barbosa is a clarinettist from Portugal, recognised for winning several national and international awards. Born in Matosinhos, she began her musical studies with her father and later continued at the Porto Conservatory of Music and the Porto School of Music and Performing Arts, where she studied with Professors Adam Wierzba and António Saiote. She has earned awards in over a dozen competitions, including 1st prize in the XII Estoril Interpretation Competition/El Corte Inglés Prize, 1st prize in the Young Musicians/RDP Competition, 1st prize in the 1st Porto International Clarinet Competition, and 2nd prizes in the International Young Artist Competition in Utah, USA, and the International Villa de Montroy Competition in Valencia, Spain. She also received the Maestro Silva Pereira Prize and was a semi-finalist in the International Prague Spring Competition. Currently, she is the principal clarinettist with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and performs as a chamber music soloist in major concert halls and festivals across Portugal. In addition to her performance career, she teaches at the Lisbon Music Academy and regularly gives masterclasses throughout the country. She is a founding member of the Vintage Quartet.
