Emmanuel Marre

Director, Screenwriter

Emmanuel Marre (b. 1980) is a French filmmaker and screenwriter based in Brussels, whose work moves between documentary and fiction. After studying literature in Paris, he trained in directing at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Belgium, graduating in 2008. His filmmaking practice embraces an open, improvisational approach, close to documentary, grounded in direct engagement with actors, locations and the unpredictability of everyday life. In 2021, he co-directed his first feature, Zero Fucks Given, with Julie Lecoustre, which premiered at Cannes Critics’ Week. His second film — this time a solo project — A Man of His Time, earned him the Best Screenplay award, also at Cannes, and will be presented in competition at LEFFEST, with the director in attendance.
