Elia Suleiman is a Palestinian director and actor, born in 1960. Recognized for his film Divine Intervention (2002), a modern tragicomedy about life under occupation in Palestine that won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Suleiman is often compared to Jacques Tati and Buster Keaton for his poetic style that blends burlesque with sobriety. A constant presence at the world's biggest film festivals, his work has been widely awarded.
