Alexandra Lucas Coelho began her career as a journalist in 1987. She studied theatre at IFICT, graduated in Communication Sciences from Nova University of Lisbon, and was a master’s student at the Mértola Archaeological Centre. She started her career in radio and later worked as a correspondent for Público, focusing particularly on the city of Jerusalem. In 2007, she published her first book, Oriente Próximo, in which she explores in detail her experiences as a journalist in the Middle East, with an emphasis on the occupied Palestinian territories. Over the years, she has published many other books based on her journalistic insights into various countries and regions. In 2012, she released her first novel, E a Noite Roda. In 2024, she wrote a profile of Nida Ibrahim for Público, in which she depicted the precarious situation in the Gaza Strip while highlighting the challenges faced by the press amid censorship from Israeli forces. At LEFFEST'24, Alexandra Lucas Coelho and Nida Ibrahim will reunite for a joint conversation as part of the Images of War, War of Images section.
