Filmmaker, Artist

Albert Serra (b. 1975, Banyoles) is a renowned Catalan filmmaker and artist whose work occupies a singular place in contemporary cinema, challenging all the conventions. His first feature film, Honour of the Knights (Quixotic) (2006), premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and was named one of the best films of 2007 by Cahiers du cinéma. In 2013, he won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival for Story of My Death. This was followed by The Death of Louis XIV (2016), which received the Jean Vigo Prize, and Liberté (2019), which won an award at Cannes. With Pacifiction (2022), nominated for the Palme d’Or, Serra further cemented his international reputation. In 2024, Afternoons of Solitude won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival, sparking intense critical debate. Serra will attend the 20th edition of LEFFEST to present, Out of Competition, his latest film, Seize moments de ma vie, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
