A Syrian-born poet, critic and essayist, Adonis is one of the most important Arab poets of our time. He renewed contemporary Arab poetry, influencing a generation of Arab writers and poets. He works in the border between two cultures, eastern and western, creating a synthesis between the strong tradition of Arab poetry and Western modern poetry. He has published more than twenty books. Adonis won the Goethe Prize in 2011 and has been, for several years, one of the strongest candidates for the Nobel Prize for Literature. The launch of one of his Poetic Anthologies, O Arco-Íris do Instante, with an introduction, selection and translated by Nuno Júdice, a D. Quixote edition, will take place at the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival.
