Adolfo Luxúria Canibal is the artistic alias of Adolfo Morais de Macedo, born in Luanda, Angola. He graduated in Law from the University of Lisbon, practiced law until 1999 and currently works as a legal advisor.


He was the founder, vocalist and composer for the groups Auaufeiomau (1981-1984), PVT Industrial (1984) and Mão Morta (since 1984). With Mão Morta, he recorded over a dozen original albums, including the famous Mutantes S.21 (1992), Primavera de Destroços (2001), and the band's latest album, No fim era o frio (2019), originally composed for the homonymous dance piece by Inês Jacques, presented this year at the Guidance festival in Guimarães. Luxúria Canibal also conceived multimedia shows and participated as an actor in a television series.


Author of scattered texts and chronicles in newspapers, magazines and the radio, he published the books Rock n’ Roll, Estilhaços and Todas as ruas do mundo, the artistic object-book Desenho Diacrónico alongside Fernando Lemos, and has recently launched both the collection of chronicles Garatujos do Minho and the anthology of poems No Rasto dos Duendes Eléctricos.  The multitalented musician, who is an influential figure in Portuguese culture, has both translated texts from authors such as Heiner Müller and Vladimir Maiakovski, and participated as a vocalist and lyricist across several albums and shows for more than a dozen Portuguese and foreign groups and artists, such as Pop Dell'Arte, Clã, Moonspell, WrayGunn, Houdini Blues, Pat Kay & The Dudes and Steve MacKay, additionally performing in the French group Mécanosphère (2000-2009) as a vocalist.


Mão Morta 


The band Mão Morta was formed in 1984 in Braga by Joaquim Pinto, Miguel Pedro and Adolfo Luxúria Canibal. In 1986, the group earns the Award for Originality at the third Competition for Modern Music at the club Rock Rendez-Vous, which gets them their first positive critiques. They are invited to open for international bands such as Gun Club, Wire and Nick Cave, and begin touring around the country. They record their first homonymous album in 1988, all-around well received and gathering the band wide praise bestowed by the most varied personalities from Nick Cave to Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys). In 1993, they release Mutantes S.21, which goes on to become a hit, leading them to sign with BMG. Their latest and new original album, No Fim Era o Frio, released this year, joins 19 others in the group’s discography, many of which regularly take part in discussions of the all time best albums of Portuguese music.
