This episode of the RTP series Um Dia Com... focuses on plastic artist Lourdes Castro. Throughout these 24 minutes, the artist recalls her professional career, while reflecting on her artistic process and the meaning that her creations have for her and, subsequently, for other people, confessing: ‘It's how you do things, that's what's important. (...) Whatever it is, if it's done with pleasure, other people take pleasure in it.’

Lourdes Castro was one of the greatest Portuguese artists of the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. She was born on 9 December 1930, in Funchal. The natural landscape of the island that surrounded her from an early age, and to which she chose to return in 1983, was a passion that accompanied her life and, consequently, her work. She had her first solo exhibition at Clube Funchalense in 1955, and also took part in some group exhibitions in Lisbon. The following year she studied painting at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes in Lisbon, but abandoned her studies and left for Munich in 1957, later settling in Paris with her husband, René Bertholo, with whom she founded the KWY group and magazine. From the 1960s onwards, she developed an interest in projecting and fixating profiles and shadows, portraying them in her work on various materials such as sheets, acrylic and paper.
