The Vampires or, The Arch Criminals of Paris

In this ten-episode series, journalist Philippe and his friend Mazamette attempt to stop a gang known as "The Vampires," responsible for a wave of crimes terrorising Paris. The organisation is led by the Grand Vampire and Irma Vep, one of cinema’s earliest femme fatales. Throughout the episodes, the early use of techniques that would later define the thriller genre, combined with their treatment of sensuality and violence, gives the series a modern quality that solidifies it as a masterpiece of silent cinema.
