Sing Sing

Greg Kwedar's latest film, Sing Sing (2023), took seven years to make and is a drama based on the Rehabilitation Through the Arts programme implemented by the Sing Sing Correctional Centre. Merging fiction and reality together, the cast is made up mostly of former prisoners who were part of the programme, accompanied by professional actors Colman Domingo and Paul Raci. The plot follows the story of prisoner Divine G, imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, whose emotional burden is lightened by his dedication to the prison theatre group. What follows is a story about the regenerative and cathartic power of art in an environment where individual freedom and emotional expression are restricted.
