In the heart of a botanical garden, in a German university town, stands a majestic ginkgo that bears witness to three stories. In 1908, the university’s first female student is admitted to the Department of Botany; in 1972, a student is transformed by the simple act of observing a geranium; in 2020, a neuroscientist from Hong Kong develops an experiment with the tree. Through it, Silent Friend is a tender exploration of the most human impulse — the connection with the Other.
