Phantom Beirut

This drama blurs the line between fiction and documentary, occasionally incorporating real-life testimonies from the actors about the Lebanese Civil War. Phantom Beirut tells the story of Khalil, who returns to Beirut after 10 years. Before leaving, he had used the chaos of battle to fake his own death. Although he assumes a new identity upon his return, he is soon recognised by old friends. Ghassan Salhab's debut film evokes memories and reflections on the war, its meaning, and its devastating impact on both the city and its people.
