Old Joy

Kelly Reichardt returns to American independent cinema after a 12-year absence with a road movie about friendship and masculinity. On a camping trip through the Oregon woods, two old friends – Mark, soon to become a father, and Kurt, a wandering nomad – try to recover the intimacy they once shared. Adapted from a story by Jonathan Raymond and featuring music by Yo La Tengo, Old Joy confirms Reichardt’s contemplative and subtly ironic gaze.
