My Favourite Cake

Maryam Moghaddam, Behtash Sanaeeha

Original title: Keyke mahboobe man

Seventy-year-old Mahin lives alone in Tehran following the death of her husband and her daughter’s move to Europe. During one of her regular lunches with friends, a conversation awakens her desire to break her routine and connect with someone. After defending a young woman being harassed by the morality police, she meets Faramarz, a taxi driver with whom she shares a sense of loneliness and dissatisfaction. Mahin invites him to dinner, and the two exchange memories of their lives. The film creates a bubble of intimacy that is as precious as it is fragile in an oppressive society.
