Men in War

In Korea, on 6 September 1950, a small platoon of American soldiers got separated from the rest of their division. Lost and isolated, with no radio signal, the only instructions they receive is the necessity to continue towards a hill in order to meet up with the American forces. To this end, Lieutenant Benson and Sergeant Montana, who have a tumultuous relationship, are forced to work together to save what's left of their team. Based on the novel “Day Without End” by Van Van Praag, the director skilfully illustrates the despairing effect that war has on the soldiers, creating a dark and unsettling atmosphere.

Anthony Mann

Born in 1906, Anthony Mann was a film and theatre actor and director, who became famous for his westerns and noir films. He began his career as a theatre actor in New York, later working as a production manager and director. At the age of 31, he moved to Hollywood and held various positions, including as a casting director and assistant director, until he made his first film, Dr Broadway, in 1946. However, it was only in 1947, with the noir T-Men, that the director began to achieve commercial success. In 1950, he made the transition to westerns and worked for the first time with actor James Stewart, who became a frequent collaborator with Mann, starring in eight of his films. Between the 1950s and 1960s he made a total of ten westerns, for which his career is best remembered.
