The film focuses on the life in the Spinalonga leper colony, on an island near the coast of Creta, where many have been discarded since 1904, when the colony was founded. We focus on Raimondakis’ life, exploring through him possibilities of love, community and death through the heavy lens of disease, which allows us to experience the endurance of human values in this cinematic study.

Jean-Daniel Pollet

Jean-Daniel Pollet was a French screenwriter and filmmaker born in 1936, whose career begins in 1958 with his first short film, Pourvu qu’on ait l’ivresse, a silent picture observing the bodies and figures of dancers. Later, in 1963, Pollet directer another short film, Méditerranée, an experimental film that documents the origins of a civilization in a voyage through the waters and shores of the Mediterranean Sea. He directed many films, including Une balle au coeur (1966) and L’acrobate (1976). A particular feature of his work is the introduction of commentary and text segments by French authors such as Philippe Sollers or Francis Ponge in order to achieve a form of poetic cinema.
