Lemmings is a two-part drama, made for Austrian television, about the fate of Haneke's own generation that came of age after World War II. The first part explores the generational divide between 1950s teenagers and their parents, while the second part depicts the same characters twenty years later as they have become dysfunctional and suicidal adults. Regarded as one of Haneke's most significant early works, Lemmings features the early exploration of many themes he would later develop in his theatrical films.
