Paul Smaczny documents the story of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said, from its inception in 1999 to its renowned concert in Ramallah in 2005. Based on the belief that music can promote peace, the orchestra brings together young Arabs and Jews. This documentary illustrates how music serves as a bridge between different cultures, enabling the overcoming of entrenched prejudices.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Mariam Said, Michael Barenboim, and Tyme Khleifi.
