Hunger

In 1981, Bobby Sands, a young twenty-seven-year-old man from the Irish Republican Army detained in Northern Ireland’s Maze Prison, begins a hunger strike to protest the British government’s refusal to recognize captured members of the IRA as political prisoners. As McQueen reveals Bobby’s last living days in prison, we witness what a man is willing to endure to make his voice heard.

Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen (London, 1969) is a director, screenwriter and artist. After studying Art in London, he went to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Meanwhile, he directed short-films such as Bear (1993) and Exodus (1997). His artwork was displayed in countless museums, from the Guggenheim to the Tate Gallery, winning the Turner Prize in 1999. With the release of his first feature, Hunger (2008), McQueen won a myriad of awards and was applauded at the most varied film festivals.

Since then, he kept directing films such as Shame (2011), internationally renowned, and 12 Years a Slave (2013), earning him three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Recently, McQueen released Widows (2018) and the miniseries Small Axe (2020) and Uprising (2021).
