Families like Ours

With its premiere on August 31, 2024, at the 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival, Families like Ours marks Thomas Vinterberg's first television series. In the near future, the inhabitants of Denmark are forced to evacuate the country due to rising sea levels. Families, friends and loved ones are separated. Laura, a high school student, finds her life irreparably changed when she has to choose between her family and the boy she is in love with. With this work composed of seven episodes, Vinterberg evokes the past, present and collective future by reflecting on the stories of emigration that have always accompanied our society, while interconnecting them to the environmental concerns that have become increasingly alarming in today’s world.
