Europa

Lars von Trier

Original title: Europa

In the ruins of postwar Germany, an idealistic young American takes a railway job for the Zentropa company. Drawn into a web of political intrigue, manipulation and lingering Nazi sympathies, he becomes entangled in a society struggling to reckon with its recent past. Blending film noir, melodrama and hypnotic formal experimentation, Europa (final title of the eponymous trilogy) turns history into a dreamlike labyrinth of guilt, complicity and power.
