The past, present and future are intertwined in this film by Atom Egoyan. Although it presents a rather complex plot at times, due to its different layers and perspectives, Ararat's central message is simple: bring awareness to the Armenian Genocide that began in 1915 and lasted for eight years. By exploring how the event is belittled and even denied, while, at the same time, demonstrating its repercussions on the people of Armenia that continue to this day, the director reflects on the power of accountability in defining collective memory.
