ARTURES
Yüksel Arslan

Istambul, 1933 – Paris, 2017

In a combination of rhythms and textures from memory and history, Arslan’s discourse overcomes a possible categorisation as for, in 1962, he was the one to create an acronym “arture” (from the word “arte” and the suffix “ure”, as in peinture and sculpture). Through a dialogue with surrealistic heritage, literature, philosophy, the traditional and the modern, the temporal and the intemporal, his works are as notes on a dairy where he registers impressions, perceptions and observations.
This form of materialised contemplation refers to personal, cultural, anthropological and ethnological elements, and sustains its immersive, repetitive and remissive atmosphere.

This exhibition, the first one in Portugal, is a choice of 14 artures from several series he has worked on, such as “Influences” (1980-1984), “L’Homme” (1986-1999)an “Nouvelles Influences” (2000-2010).

The exhibition opens on November 17, in MU.SA, Sintra, at 12pm. It will be open to the public until December 30.
