The festival offers a unique opportunity with the first-ever cinema screening of several of the Austrian author's films. One of the biggest names in contemporary European cinema, Michael Haneke's television films and three feature films will be screened in new, restored digital copies.
The films include The Castle (1997), based on Franz Kafka's novel of the same name. Haneke, winner of more than 60 awards, including two Palmes d'Or at Cannes, is known for his disturbing and provocative style. As he himself said: ‘Art should be provocation’.
This retrospective offers the opportunity to delve into the disturbing and intense work of an author who provokes profound reflections on the ghosts and fears of contemporary society.
