Simão Cayatte was born in Lisbon in 1984. He studied theatre at Goldsmiths, University of London, and film at Columbia University in New York. As an actor, he has appeared in films by Werner Schroeter, Stan Douglas, Cristèle Alves Meira, and Ivo Ferreira. He has written and directed several short films, including A Viagem (Cannes Film Festival, Cinéfondation 2011), Miami (MotelX Best Short Film Award 2015), and Young Lady (Sophia Award for Best Short Film, 2017). He co-produced Richard Stanley’s feature film Color Out of Space (2019) and directed the fiction series Vanda, which premiered at the Berlinale Series Market in 2022. Alongside his work as a director, he has developed a career as a screenwriter and gives screenwriting workshops in Portugal and across Europe. Vadio (2022) was his first feature film, produced by Ukbar, and screened at the 16th edition of LEFFEST. He is currently in post-production on his new feature film, O Barqueiro, produced by Leopardo Filmes.
