Angélica Liddell

Playwright, Writer, Director

Angélica Liddell (b. 1966) is a Spanish playwright, writer, director and performance artist whose work occupies a singular position at the intersection of theatre, poetry and performance. Co-founder of Atra Bilis with Gumersindo Puche in 1993, she has developed a radical artistic language that confronts violence, cruelty, desire, death and sacrifice through an intensely physical and poetic approach. Drawing on autobiographical material, ritual, myth and Christian iconography, her work challenges social and theatrical conventions, pushing the body towards states of pain, grief, love and ecstasy. Her productions have been presented at major international venues and festivals, including the Avignon Festival, the Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris and the Vienna Festival. Her works include La casa de la fuerza, ¿Qué haré yo con esta espada?, Una costilla sobre la mesa and Seppuku. Among her distinctions are the Silver Lion at the Venice Theatre Biennale, the National Prize for Dramatic Literature and the Spanish National Theatre Award (2025). This year, Angélica Liddell is a member of the jury for the LEFFEST Official Selection in Competition.
