Simon Stone (n. 1984) is an Australian filmmaker, screenwriter and theatre director whose work spans cinema and theatre, exploring the complexities of intimacy, identity and human relationships. Born in Basel and trained at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, he founded the independent theatre company The Hayloft Project in 2007, establishing his reputation through radical reinterpretations of classical works by authors such as Ibsen, Chekhov and Euripides. His work is characterised by reimagining canonical texts as contemporary dramas, often developed through improvisation and close collaboration with actors. He made his feature film directorial debut with The Daughter (2015), inspired by Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, followed by The Dig (2021) and The Woman in Cabin 10 (2025). His latest film, Elsinore (2026), premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and won the International People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. Simon Stone will attend the 20th edition of LEFFEST to present the film.
