Otar Iosseliani (1934) is a filmmaker born in Georgia, but a significant part of his career was spent in France, where he has lived since 1982. He studied music (piano and composing), mathematics, and later cinema at the VGIK (All-Russian State University of Cinematography), where he learned from Alexander Dovzhenko. His films received important awards in festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin (where he was also a member of the jury, years later) and Locarno. He won the Louis Delluc Prize for his film Adieu, Plancher des Vaches! (1999) and Chantrapas (2010) was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Picture.
