Georgi M. Unkovski is a Macedonian writer and director, born in New York City in 1988. He spent his childhood and youth in Macedonia before returning to the United States to study at the Rochester Institute of Technology – Eastman’s School of Photography, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. During that period, he published the photography book Be Right Back, focused on gaming culture and the young people who frequented internet cafés in Skopje (the capital of North Macedonia). His passion for cinema then led him to Prague, where he completed a master’s degree at the prestigious FAMU – Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts, with a thesis exploring the intersections between video games and cinema. Since then, he has lived in Skopje, working as a director in advertising and television, and is one of the directors of the popular show Fcerasni Novosti. A Sundance Institute alumnus, Unkovski has directed more than ten short films, notably Sticker (2020), which won over 50 international awards. DJ Ahmet marks his feature film debut and will be screened in the Discoveries section of this LEFFEST.
