Eva Ionesco

Actress, Director, Screenwriter

Eva Ionesco (n. 1965, Paris) is a French actress, filmmaker and screenwriter whose life and career have been marked by the controversy surrounding her childhood. The daughter of Romanian-French photographer Irina Ionesco, she became the subject of her mother’s photographs at the age of five, images that raised questions about the representation and exploitation of childhood. She made her screen debut at eleven in Roman Polanski’s The Tenant (1976), followed by roles in other films during the late 1970s. She later studied acting at the École des Amandiers, directed by Patrice Chéreau and Pierre Romans. In 2010, she made her feature directorial debut with My Little Princess, starring Isabelle Huppert. Drawing on her own childhood experiences, the film revisits the relationship between a young girl and her photographer mother, transforming a deeply personal history into fiction. At the 20th LEFFEST, Ionesco will attend a screening of My Little Princess and take part in a conversation with the audience.
